| *In the photos shown as Old Photographs on the menu, 1956 Dolgellau Spring Fair, the first photo shows my great uncle and his friend. His friend is on the left and was Wil Edwards (Wil "Ffordd" - Wil the road i.e. the Roadsweeper). Most Welsh people had/have nicknames according to trade, address etc. My Great Uncle on the right i.e. Uncle Bob, Robert Jones Griffith, was one of the brothers of my paternal grandmother. Known as Bob, Erw Wen, (born at Erw Wen, Islawrdref) or Bob, TanyFoel ( he worked with one of his brothers in later life at TanyFoel, Llanfachreth). Uncle Bob was an ex-farmhand, coal miner (S.Wales) and gold miner (Gwynfynydd Gold Mine, Bontddu) and came to live at our house in Idris Terrace , Dolgellau when my father and both his parents died at a young age before the war. Uncle Bob became very much a father figure in our house to my sister and myself and agreat help to my widowed mother. This is the only known photograph to have been taken of Uncle Bob as he would never agree to it, and this must have been taken without his knowledge. I did not have a copy of it, and I am so pleased to have come across it on this web site.
