Tthe Lawnt. It is either Baker Street or the back of Baker Street. The steps may not be there any more, but the big building in the background definitely is. If you go to the lane that leads from the back of Neuadd Idris, passed what use to be Ellsi Taxies' in my youth, the back gate of the church/front gate of the church extension cemetery to the Marian, and explore the back lanes from there you will find the place from which this photo was taken (eventually). (Information courtesy of Alwyn at dolgellau.me.uk) The convoluted description of how to get to MARION ROAD and therefore Back BAKER STREET (Some people say this was the original "Lawnt" street-it would explain the church gate position!?) could get one lost. Not necessary to go through the back alley and you do not go past Elsie's Taxi's (and that used to be a sweetie shop, the one place in Dolgellau you could buy "Bazooka" bubble gum). The Old Gas Works (near Aber Cafe). The chimney has now gone. I believe that the Gasometers from this site have been moved to an industrial heritage park in the north of England. (Information courtesy of Alwyn at dolgellau.me.uk). The railings are on the other side of the road by the (now) Laundrette. It was a 'bookies' in those days (information suppied by Gail Hall) |

The steps are the back of the now closed "Siop Y Bont" by the Launderette-with those railings again! (information courtesy of Gail Hall) |
Wells Street, looking from the old snooker club... now a day care centre for the health authority |
The Square coming down from Mount Pleasant (Meyrig Square) (there used to be a Fish & Chip Shop there which was run by Dewi Jones (of Fronolau's) Uncle. |
